Tanjung Bungah

Tanjung Bungah is a small town of Georgetown in Penang, Malaysia. Tanjung Bungah literally translated as ' Flower Cape ', it is a sea facing suburbs located between Gurney and Batu Feringghi. Traditionally, this small town is a fishing village that has become popular destination in the last few years. It is an ideal tourist location, both for adventure lovers and travelers looking for a relaxing get-away from their hectic lives. There are large number of resorts to choose from, which provide the tourists with ample comfort and luxury. The wonderful and natural landscape around makes it an ideal holiday destination. With many water sports options near the Penang Water Sports Centre, the town offers adventure activities and water sports for all age groups visiting the place.

How to reach
Bus – The best option to reach Tanjung Bungah is to take a direct bus from Kuala Lumpur to Penang Island. You need to get down at Sungai Nibong Bus terminal and not Butterworth. There is no direct bus from Kuala Lumpur to Tanjung Bungah. From the Sungai Bus Station (located at the South West of the island), one needs to take a cab to Tanjung Bungah (Northeast of island), which costs around RM 30-40. There is another option to take a Rapid Penang Bus to Komtar and change another bus there to reach Tanjung Bungah.
Airport – The nearest airport to Tanjung Bungah is Penang airport. The most reliable way to reach Tanjung Bungah from the airport is the Airport bus service that runs every 30 minutes. Bus lines 102, 306, 401E are Rapid Penang operated bus service. These buses run in the route to Teluk Bahang via Komtar Shopping Centre. You can take one of the Rapid bus services to reach Tanjung Bungah.

Where to stay
There are several accommodation options in suburb of Tanjung Bungah. During the tourist season, there are special rates for the stays around. The food served in the restaurants is authentic and comparatively cheaper. This makes Tanjung Bungah ideal to stay if you wish to discover the island of Penang.
Another option is to stay in hotels near Komtar Shopping Complex. However, a touch costlier and less natural, it is ideal stay for tourist who like the city life in comparison to natural beauty. Most importantly, it provides ample of opportunity and options for shopping and it is an ultimate destination for shopaholics.

Main Attractions
- Penang Floating Mosque: It was built in 2004, and it is known as the Masjid Terapung. The old mosque is located along the Tanjung Bungah's stretch of beach. With its Moorish design, seven-storey-high towering minarets and 360 degree panoramic view of the sea it stands tall as one of the most popular tourist attraction in the town.
- Penang Toy Museum: It is home for over 1,00,000 toys, figures and collectibles. The Penang toy museum is the country's first toy museum. It is probably one of the largest toy museums in the world. It is divided into sections that include, Chamber of Horror and Hall of Beauties. The collection includes rare limited editions acquired by its owner Loh Lean Cheng during tours around the world.
Chinese Church: There is a very old Chinese Church in the Tanjung Bungah. There is a very old market behind this church, which is a weekly Market. It is currently on Tuesday but changes with season.

Places to eat
- Anabelle's Place: It is a charming little eatery serving pastas, sandwiches and some local savories such as fried rice. It is decorated with fairy lights and white chairs. The stuffed crab cake is a must have dish of this place.
- Blue Reef Fish and Chips: It is one of the pocket friendly restaurants. It serves wholesome meal and has child friendly environment. This quality makes the place quite a legend amongst the eateries in the town. Fish Chips and Aglio Oglio pasta are some of the favorites dishes amongst the diners.
- Crab Village Restaurant: The place is located within touching distance from the Floating Mosque. It is an air-conditioned dining hall serving one of the best seafoods in the area. One of the most recommended dishes here is the sweet and sour clam.
- Medan Selera Mutiara: It is the most popular hawker center in Tanjung Bungah. The place offers variety of food options from Satay to Western food, all mouth-watering and affordable. It is definitely one of the must visit places for food lovers.
- Mom's Kitchen Thai Cuisine: It is located in a cozy neighborhood, this little place is a must visit for visitors to the island, simply because of its authentic Thai cuisine. You cannot miss the stuffed chicken wings and pineapple-fried rice.
- Sri Ananda Bahwan Garden Café: As the name suggests, they are specialist in the South Indian cuisine. It is a very popular food chain in Penang. The ambience and attentive service will win your heart. Apart from the famous South Indian savories, they also add variety by serving Chinese dishes. The place also has vegetarian options for its vegetarian visitors.
- The No Eye Deer: This place is a non-vegetarian and seafood lover’s paradise. Other specialties are Loatian Laksa, Chicken Parmigiana, Mutton Rogan Josh, and Fish & Chips.
