In Manly, a harbour meets the sophistication of suburban life. Manly is part of Northern Beaches district in New South Wales. The harbour is 11 km away from Sydney City, a perfect place to enjoy eighteen ocean beaches. Legend is that Manly was named after the manly Aboriginals Captain Arthur Philip had to encounter in the peninsula. How to reach Manly
You can reach the Northern Beaches via commuter train and buses. There is no direct train access to Manly. From Sydney Central you can take commuter train and get off at North Sydney. Board a bus to Neutral Bay and later at Military Road change your bus heading to Spit Bridge or Manly Wharf.
Taking a ferry to Manly gives you the most picturesque way of approaching Manly. You can catch a ferry headed to Manly from Circular Quay. Road access to Manly from Sydney is another choice you can make.
Airport - Sydney International Airport is the closest airport to Manly. It is connected to 46 domestic destinations and 43 international airports. It is the oldest commercially airport and was the 38th busiest airport in the world in 2015. Manly is half an hour away from the Sydney Airport in normal traffic.

- The Quarantine Station has interesting stories to reveal about Sydney and how it prevented epidemics from spreading. If you’re really gutsy try the Ghost Walk conducted at night.
- At Manly Art Gallery and Museum, you can catch a glimpse of Manly’s history and beach memorabilia.
- You can swim, surf, sail, do kayaking, scuba dive or simply walk in the beaches. Plenty of facilities are available for these water sporting activities.
- Manly Scenic Walkway has two phases; a 10km stretch between Manly and Spit Bridge and another 9.5km stretch around North Head. This is by far the most enchanting experience in Manly.
- The Corso area is a splendid avenue for shopping as well as a peaceful stroll. There are plenty of local shops, pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes along the street.

- Seaforth Oval to Natural Bridge Track is a difficult one but worth it with spectacular views of Middle Harbour at the end of it.
- North Head Sanctuary will tell you stories of how Sydney defended World War II at North Fort. Another historical monument in the area is the Memorial Walk.
- Cabbage Tree Bay is 20 hectares in size which is intended at protecting marine life.

Manly being a happening destination in Sydney is expectedly expensive with rates varying from mid-range to splurge.
A few posh apartments are available in Balgowlah if you wish to stay in the mainland.

Mosman is 9 km away from Manly and has a number of budget options to stay, which are relatively cheaper compared to the ones available in Manly.

Getting Places
The beauty of Manly is best enjoyed when you take a ferry from Sydney Circular Quay to Manly ferry.
Taxi - You can get taxis to move around in Manly. Barring the difficulty in parking, driving around in Manly is a pretty convenient option.
Bus - Buses are available to nearby suburbs. Few private services are available into the forest areas and interiors of Manly.
Ferry - Specialised ferry services are available to commute between the beaches. There are ferries of varying luxury available along the ferry.

Tips for travel across Manly
- Always swim between the flags for your own safety.
- The sea can get pretty rough and be cautious while surfing.
- Take necessary protection for yourself from getting sun burns.
- Stay away from Corso after midnight as fights are pretty common in the area.
- There are areas with sudden drop of water which may not be safe for amateur swimmers as rough tides are experienced.
